Translate your webshop

Overview

Use Ribbn’s Translation Manager to make your webshop available in multiple languages such as Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian.

Your webshop language is connected to the visitor’s selected currency, which helps create a smoother localized shopping experience.

Note

The language displayed in the webshop is automatically tied to the shopper’s selected currency.

Example

If a visitor selects SEK (Swedish Kronor), the webshop will display in Swedish.

How translations work

Translations in Ribbn rely on locales. Each translation entry is matched to webshop content through a Key value.

For a translation to appear correctly:

  • The Key must match the webshop text exactly
  • Capitalization must be identical
  • Spacing must be identical
  • The wording must be unchanged

If the Key does not match exactly, the translation will not map to the correct webshop element.

Warning

Even small differences in casing, spacing, or wording can prevent a translation from working.

Method 1: Add translations manually

Use this method when you want to translate individual words, labels, or text elements directly in Ribbn.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings > Translation Manager.
  2. Click Add New Item.
  3. Enter the exact word, phrase, or sentence you want to translate.
  4. Fill in the Key field with the exact matching webshop text.
  5. Add the English text in all required English fields.
  6. Add the translated text in the target language field.
  7. Click Submit.
  8. Open your website and test the translation.
  9. Repeat for each webshop element that needs translation.

Best practice for long sentences

For longer text strings:

  1. Copy the original text from the webshop builder element into Notes.
  2. Copy it from Notes into the Key field.

This helps reduce formatting mistakes.

Test your changes

After submitting the translation:

  • Go to the website
  • Change the language using the flag in the top-right corner
  • Confirm the translated content appears correctly

Method 2: Import translations in bulk with CSV

Use this method when you want to add or update many translations at once.

Step 1: Use the translation template

Start with the Ribbn translation template.

Note

Save the template to your computer before editing it.

The template includes:

  • A Key column
  • One column for each supported language

Template rules

  1. Go to Settings → Translations

Translation requirements

English is mandatory

Before adding other languages, always include the English version in all of these fields:

  • EN
  • EN-GB
  • EN-EU

Supported workflow options

There are two ways to manage translations:

  • Manual entry in Translation Manager
  • Bulk import using a CSV template

Checklist

Use this checklist when translating a webshop:

  • Confirm which webshop elements need translation
  • Make sure each Key exactly matches the webshop text
  • Add English content to EN, EN-GB, and EN-EU
  • Add translated content to the correct language fields
  • Submit or import your changes
  • Test the language switch on the storefront
  • Repeat until all required webshop elements are translated

Troubleshooting

Translation does not appear

Check the following:

  • The Key exactly matches the webshop text
  • Capitalization is identical
  • Spacing is identical
  • The English fields are populated
  • The correct target language field contains the translation

CSV import issues

If a CSV import does not behave as expected, verify that:

  • The template was saved locally before editing
  • The file was exported as CSV (.csv)
  • The Key column was not altered incorrectly
  • Only the language columns were updated

Summary

Ribbn lets you localize your webshop by connecting language display to the shopper’s selected currency. You can manage translations either manually in the Translation Manager or in bulk with a CSV import. In both methods, success depends on exact Key matching and always including English values in EN, EN-GB, and EN-EU before adding other languages.
