Meta Catalog Sync (Product Data Feed)
Summary
This guide walks you through syncing Ribbn webshop products to a Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Catalog using a Product Data Feed URL. Once connected, Meta will automatically refresh your catalog so you can use products in Meta Ads, Facebook & Instagram ads, and Instagram Shopping.
What you’ll need
- Access to Meta Business Suite for the correct Business account
- A Meta Catalog (new or existing)
- Your Ribbn Product Data Feed URL (requested from the Ribbn team)
- (Optional, but recommended) Meta Pixel enabled for tracking product activity
Why this matters
To advertise products or enable shopping experiences on Meta platforms, Meta needs a structured product source. A Product Data Feed powers a Meta Catalog, which can be used for:
- Meta Ads (including product-based campaigns)
- Facebook and Instagram ads
- Instagram Shopping
A feed-based catalog also keeps product information up to date as Ribbn products change.
Step 1: Get the Ribbn Product Data Feed URL
- Contact the Ribbn team and request your Product Data Feed.
- Save the feed URL they provide—you’ll paste this into Meta later.
Step 2: Open Catalog settings in Meta Business Suite
- Log in to Meta Business Suite.
- Click the Settings (gear) icon.
- In the left-hand menu, go to Data Sources → Catalogs.
Step 3: Create or select a Meta Catalog
In Catalogs, you’ll see existing catalogs for your Business.
Option A: Use an existing catalog
- Select the catalog you want to sync your Ribbn products into.
- Continue to connect a data feed when prompted to add or manage items.
Option B: Create a new catalog
- Click Add → Create new catalog.
- Enter a catalog name.
- Click Next to create it.
Step 4: Enable Meta Pixel (if needed)
To track product activity (views, adds to cart, purchases, etc.), you’ll need Meta Pixel enabled.
- If you’re using a Ribbn webshop, the Ribbn team will help you set this up.
Step 5: Connect the Product Data Feed URL to Meta
When Meta prompts you to add products:
- Select Connect to a data feed.
- For the feed source, enter the file feed URL from Step 1.
Common mistake to avoid
- Do not upload the CSV file you see when opening the feed URL in a browser.
- Do copy and paste the actual feed URL into Meta.
- Paste the URL and click Next.
- If Meta prompts for a username/password:
- Leave both fields blank
- Continue to the next step
Step 6: Set currency and update frequency (automatic syncing)
- Choose the currency used in your Ribbn webshop.
- Set the update frequency:
- Ribbn updates the feed every hour, so you can select hourly in Meta.
After saving these settings, your Meta Catalog will refresh automatically and remain usable for:
- Meta Ads
- Instagram Shopping
- Other Meta product-driven features
Recommended settings
| Setting | Recommended Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Catalog | Your desired Meta Catalog | Ensures the correct product set is used in ads/shopping |
| Product source | Data feed (URL) | Enables automated refresh (no manual uploads) |
| Feed URL auth | Username/password left blank | Feed should be accessible without credentials |
| Currency | Same as Ribbn webshop | Prevents pricing/currency mismatches |
| Update frequency | Hourly | Matches Ribbn’s hourly feed updates |
Troubleshooting
Meta can’t fetch the feed
- Confirm you pasted the feed URL (not a downloaded CSV file).
- If prompted for credentials, ensure username/password are blank.
- Re-check that the URL was copied completely (no missing characters).
Products appear in the wrong catalog
- Verify which catalog you selected (especially if a Shopify catalog already exists).
- Switch to the intended catalog and connect the Ribbn feed there.
Tracking isn’t working
- Confirm Meta Pixel is enabled.
- If you’re on a Ribbn webshop, ask the Ribbn team to verify Pixel setup.
What’s next
Once your catalog is synced, you can:
- Build product-based campaigns in Meta Ads Manager
- Enable and manage Instagram Shopping
- Use your catalog in dynamic ad formats and placements
